About Me
I first learned to meditate around 1995, and in 1998 I discovered the Ishayas’ Ascension practice. Something about its simplicity, depth and practicality resonated deeply with me. In 2003, I took vows as an Ishaya monk, making a commitment to dedicate my life to increasing love and compassion within myself and in the world.
Since then, I have had the privilege of teaching Ascension internationally, including classes and retreats throughout the UK, Europe, and Scandinavia, as well as in Australia, Mexico and Canada.
What I continue to love about Ascension is that it offers a clear and practical path for experiencing more peace, joy and love in everyday life. At the same time, it can open us to something much deeper: the stillness of the present moment and a growing experience of conscious awareness beyond our habitual identification with a separate sense of “me”.
For me, this isn’t about withdrawing from life or escaping the world. Quite the opposite. I believe spiritual growth can allow us to engage with life more fully, openly and consciously.
I live a full and active life. I’m married to another Ishaya monk, Lilavati, and together we have a teenage daughter. Family life, relationships, work, (my golf game!), and all the ordinary challenges are very much part of my spiritual path — opportunities to bring greater awareness, love and presence into everyday experience.
